Following a successful unbeaten 10-0 season the Seahawks u16 headed for the National Finals in Sheffield on 31st August, ranked #2 in the UK and understandably full of confidence.
The semi finals saw us face off against a Tamworth Phoenix team that we knew very little about having never played them before, however we knew that had some very dangerous players on both sides of the ball.
With the offense struggling to get going the team leaned on some excellent defense in the first half including two pick 6's (an interception returned for a touchdown) and some great hard hitting tackles. With the game coming to a very tight close, the offense finally managed to find some momentum and put up the go ahead score with under a minute to go. Once again the defense stepped up and thanks to a third intereception we were able to close the game out and proceed to the National Final
In the Final we faced off against our local rivals and old adverseries, the Rushmoor Knights, a team that we know all about having had to face them during the regular season for many years. Having been the first team to beat the Knights in 3 years in the 2023 season, we went in to the game with high hopes of clinching our first National Title.
In what was to be a very close defensive battle, we found ourselves trailing 12-0 at half time, but leaning on our experience in close, tough games throughout the season the team never gave up and battled back to 12-12 with with less the 2 minutes left in the game. Unfortunately, injuries to key defensive players on back to back plays provided the Knights with the opportunity they needed and thanks to two very quick scores, went to run out 26-12 winners but the scoreline far from reflected how close the game was.
